My name is Filippo Minelli, I was born in Italy in 1983 and I have created Arts in public space by the late 90′s, most of the time branding non-places.
I studied Arts at highschool and then got my BFA in ‘Arts and New Media’ with honors by ‘Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera’ in Milan. During the Art Academy years I mostly learned how to perfectly grill sausages in the classroom along with other talented artists. And even if I don’t eat sausages anymore, thanks to the precious teachings I received I can now grill fish, which I still eat, with the same ability.
I’m interested in Politics, Geopolitics in particular, though I try not to read daily-news as they prevent from understanding the complexity of issues. This is also the reason why most of my work is composed of ongoing-series rather than single artworks: I consider the complexity and diversity the key to deciphering and portraying reality, investigating in different directions.
I’m interested in the border-areas rather than States, and I’m lucky enough to spend most of my working and free time travelling or documenting myself on various issues. I appreciate the ‘uncertainty’ as it’s synonymous with ‘freedom’, and this approach affects everything I do.
An aunt who raised me when my parents were at work was deaf, this is the probable reason why I’m trained to look for the most simple way to express concepts in the presence and absence of speech. I have always been fascinated by the power of words and language as a replacement to the figurative representation.
Sometimes my works are published by major publishing houses, magazines and newspapers or exhibited in galleries, museums and foundations, but my favorite is being involved into projects or to build them myself.

Mi chiamo Filippo Minelli, sono nato in Italia nel 1983 e ho creato Arte in spazi pubblici da fine anni ’90, il più delle volte connotando non-luoghi.
Ho studiato Arte alle scuole superiori per poi laurearmi in ‘Arte e Nuovi Media’ col massimo dei voti presso ‘Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera’ a Milano. Durante gli anni dell’Accademia ho più che altro imparato come grigliare perfettamente salsicce in aula insieme ad altri artisti di talento, e anche se non mangio più salsicce con i preziosi insegnamenti ricevuti ora posso grigliare pesce, che tutt’ora mangio, con la stessa abilità.
Mi interesso di Politica e in particolare di Geopolitica, anche se cerco di non leggere i quotidiani perché impediscono di capire la complessità degli argomenti. Questo è anche il motivo per il quale la mia produzione si compone di lavori sviluppati in serie e non singolarmente: considero complessità e diversità i fattori chiave per decifrare e ritrarre la realtà, indagando in varie direzioni.
Sono più interessato alle zone di confine che agli Stati, e sono abbastanza fortunato da passare la maggior parte del tempo lavorativo e di quello libero viaggiando o documentandomi. Apprezzo l’incertezza perché è sinonimo di ‘libertà’, e questo approccio influenza tutto quello che faccio.
Una zia che mi ha cresciuto nei momenti in cui i miei genitori erano al lavoro era sordomuta, questo è il probabile motivo del perché sono allenato a ricercare la via più semplice per esprimere concetti fra la presenza e l’assenza di linguaggio. Sono sempre stato affascinato dalla potenza delle parole e del linguaggio come sostituzione alla rappresentazione figurativa.
A volte i miei lavori vengono pubblicati da importanti case editrici, riviste e quotidiani o esposte in gallerie, musei e fondazioni, ma quello che preferisco è esser coinvolto in progetti o costruirli autonomamente.
