The past month of November Minelli traveled to Madrid for his latest series of his project Silence Shapes in the construction area of Caleido. Together we went inside the bowels of what will be one of the biggest real estate projects in the city: from its huge parking lot, to the squares and streets taking shape, to photograph with Minelli his smoke color ‘bombs’. The space came to life, and it did in full color. The colorful smoke traveled through its concrete walls, climbed the scaffoldings to remain under Caleido’s skin.
As the artist states “this project is for me a way to dialogue with the environment in order to represent the physical shape of silence. I always look for places that have a strong spatial meaning, such as places in progress, where the environment forces have more strength and play a more unpredictable role in the process. The smoke is shaped by the environment itself, and in relation to Caleido it was particularly challenging. In such a place, with the incessant building activity and all natural elements combined waiting time wasn’t an option. The presence of the building was strong and it’s possible to see it in how it shaped the smoke in a more unpredictable way. It seems like silence at Caleido speaks more, as if even silence has something to say.”
This project is part of the program of artistic interventions, curated by URVNT, that will turn Caleido into the ideal destination for public art in Madrid.
The final artworks were presented at URVNT 2020.
